Suffer Productions, LLC

Suffer Productions, LLC is the collaboration of Producer Mark W. Miller and Writer/Director Bernardo Villela.

Bernardo Villela

This is Bernardo Villela's first major film. He acquired non-exclusive, non-commercial rights to Stephen King's short story "Suffer the Little Children," in March of 2004 while an undergraduate; and guided the film from its initial conception to the final cut in November of 2005.

Since completing Suffer the Little Children, Bernardo has directed and edited three short films at Stonestreet Studios in New York, Untitled Still Life and Creative Impulses, which are two versions of the same story by Zachary Gilman. Untitled Still Life is a romantic comedy about a painter struggling with his personal and professional life in New York and Creative Impulses, which Bernardo adapted, re-imagines the story with an all-female cast; and most recently The Lucky Number a drama about a winning lottery ticket that divides the employees a non-profit organization and reveals their true natures.

In January, he directed a staged reading of a screenplay entitled You Make Me Smile for New York University's Hotink reading series. You Make Me Smile is a dramedy about a misunderstood teenage girl who gets in to a makeover reality show to gain acceptance and the affection of an older man.

A native of New York, Bernardo attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduated from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University in May of 2005 with a BFA in Film.

Mark W. Miller

A newcomer to independent film production, Mark W. Miller is an avid movie watcher and collector of Hollywood memorabilia. Mark now commits his free time and resources to independent filmmaking, and was the sole financier of Suffer the Little Children.

The management skills Mark has developed in his professional career proved very useful in producing Suffer the Little Children. Self-taught in production, Mark formed the project-specific production company, budgeted and financed the project, obtained SAG signatory status, and actively participated in casting and crew selection. Mark acted as the sole producer on this project providing oversight for all activities during preproduction, principal photography, and post-production. In addition to forming and managing Suffer Productions, LLC, Mark is also in the process of forming another ongoing production company for future film, music, and entertainment projects.

Mark recently collaborated, as an Executive Producer, with actor and filmmaker Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park, The Cure, Simon Birch, Star Kid) on Joe's post-graduate directorial debut, Matters of Life and Death. The short film stars Joseph Mazzello, David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck, A League of Their Own, Simon Birch, Dolores Claiborne), Daniel Gillies (Spider-Man 2, Bride & Prejudice, Trespassing) and Rachael Leigh Cook (Josie and the Pussycats, Texas Rangers) among others.
